HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO GET MY HOMEWORK DONE IN 23 HOURS?!?!?! seriously. out of 12 discussion posts, I've done TWO. two. haven't even read the stuff I'm posting about yet. I dunno, it's only been 5 days and school already SUCKS big time. kinda over it. technically I could drop this class, like I dropped the other two (have I mentioned how fucking expensive it is, despite having my tuition waived cos I'm poor, to buy books and computer programs and what not?! I need a job just to pay for school, to find a better job... doesn't make much sense.) cos I'm only really taking this class to keep myself busy when all of a sudden I'm pretty busy all the time. I dunno. I don't like to do things half-assed but I also don't like to give up either.

spent most of today in the studio with Armand (our engineer and all-around amazing man), who is the BEST. ever! it took us forever, but we finally nailed the first song, and totally knocked out a second. halfway done! YES! two more tomorrow, which will hopefully be easier. my god, studio vocals are so hard. I've never done them before, and I used to be a fairly decent classical singer back in high school but I am damn rusty nowadays and I don't know if it was nerves or what, but it was pretty challenging. I think overall it sounds amazing though. my harmonies just kinda blend into the rest of the mix anyway. so hell yeah! lovin' the band.

I am EXHAUSSSTEEEDDDD. feel asleep to Trick or Treat last night, which was... weird to say the least. I think Sammi Curr crept through my dreams, pouring snake blood on everything. been drinking a shitload of orange juice. and today we ate at a BBQ place in Ventura where I got chili-mac! a huge bowl, one half chili, one half mac & cheese, all delicious!! best decision I made all day, seriously. other than that, things just feel a little off this week. can't figure out what it is. I'm surprised today went as well as it did, actually.

anywho, super stoked for putting time into something amazing and worthwhile with amazing people and being able to finally see some results. still don't really know how I got here, but I guess what really matters is that I'm here at all.

I almost completely spaced on the fact that I start summer school today!! haha. I'm such a stoner and I don't even smoke pot. I'm that much of a stoner, that I DON'T NEED TO. I'm such a stoner that that sentence makes sense to me...

anywho! I'm taking Intro to Communication Design and something about designing web pages with Flash. bla bla bla. you know, school-talk. they're both online, thank god. I really can't be bothered to drive all the way to school and what not. you know, I've got shit to do. like, blog?

and today I've been listening almost exclusively to Sabotage by Black Sabbath. YES. and Tame Impala has a new song up on their myspizzle that is nothing short of magical and makes my synaesthesia go crazy! I cannot WAIT til they record a new album. I will just DIE, and lock myself indoors for a week to take it all in. for some reason, I think we would be amazing BFFs, and I picture us tumbling and rolling down a large grass hill, all giggling and shit. so cute.

Hi Bloggie! so last night some homies and I went to see Gleaming the Cube at the New Beverly.

SO GOOD! it was my first time, and I knew it had to be in a theater full of weirdos and nerds, tallcan in hand. unfortunately, midnight movies in LA almost always leave me tired the next day cos we have to drive like an hour to get home, and totally got stuck in traffic at 3am last night cos there was a brutal accident. only in LA, I swear.

today my dad and I are going to see Star Trek! finally!! and my friend's band is playing tonight in Ventura, STOKED! I really need to go grocery shopping, make phone calls and work on my 10-key & other office skills cos I have a skills test for the community college district this week, BUT there's only so much time in the day (i.e. I'm LAZY!).

I was super bummed yesterday cos our show was cancelled, but I guess it's for the best. we haven't practiced in almost a month and we're all too damn busy to do it this week, plus we have a new guitarist (Shuggie Wuggs! one of my fav people ever, Josh) and haven't EVER practiced with him! and now our drummer is going on tour with another band (total cheater, but it's okay BG, I forgive you) so those 3 other shows we have booked may or may not happen... I just want to get things rolling! but I'm trying to be patient. our main Wuggie was possibly going to be moving in August for school, but now that's not happening and I have to keep reminding myself we have longer than just the summer to get things going. BUT, in good news, we're finishing vocals this weekend! so our record will be DONE! holy holy amazing crap.

the drummer of Young Widows (who are AMAZING - seriously, go listen to them right now) broke his hand so their entire tour is cancelled :( SO BUMMED.

anyway, Star Trek was soooo good! I really didn't think I would like it, but I totally want to see it again. my friend and I were gonna go to the Hannah Montana movie at the cheapie theater on Thursday but we totally missed it. it's probably better that way!! and the Fucking Wrath/Git Some show was SO BRUTAL! so loud, so fun, if you haven't heard/seen Git Some, DO IT NOW. possibly one of the best bar shows I've ever been to. my friend Craig totally talked shit to the bouncers, it was so funny! I tried to chug some beers but man, light beer just doesn't work for me anymore. maybe I've been drinking too much....?!?! oh wait, NOT POSSIBLE. my friend dumpstered bread afterwards, so I came home to ringing eardrums and warm toast. it was lovely. also, CUTE METALHEADS will be the death of me.

Sooooooooo, BFF officially moves home today! his plane lands in like 4 hours. cannot even express my excitement... I really can't. I tried talking to him on the phone at the airport and couldn't even finish most of my sentences, I was so excited.

ps. OH HI AGAIN BLOGGINGTON! things have been crazy - too much partying (but really, not enough), BFF is moving home in 3 DAYS, we have a show in a week, etc etc.

may and studio time!

my week has passed in a blur. I can't believe it's already Friday and May! crazy. Tuesday I played music with a friend and it was really fun! he wants me to sing on some of his recordings! our voices together have sort of a Mark Lanegan/ Isobel Campbell quality to them, although not as extreme. and his songs are super catchy, so I'm excited about that project.

Wednesday I went to see Jesca Hoop at Hotel Cafe in LA. it was so many things: stunning, amazing, beautiful, magical. her music is so unique, you just have to see her live. she kind of makes me not want to play music ever again. my friend and bandmate sang backups with her and freaking blew me away! vocal shredding. unfortunately, this was Jesca's last show in LA (and the US); she's moving to the UK because she can't get a freaking record deal. in LA of all places. which makes NO sense. her music is totally magical, like going down a rabbit hole and making all kinds of new friends. musical alchemy, I tell you! I'm so grateful I was able to go! (if you have a large chunk of time for new music, check Jesca and friends (including my bunny!!!) on Morning Becomes Eclectic from 2007. pretty enchanting, huh?!)

tomorrow we're going into the studio!!!!!! I don't know if there are enough exclamation marks for how EXCITED I am. drums tomorrow! yeah, BG! I should really be sleeping and resting up but I'm just too damn excited. so here's some stuff I love:

Tame Impala posted this on their website today (or yesterday? the time difference totally confuses me). I love travel pictures, especially of bands I'm really into, where they're doing Real People Stuff, like sleeping at an airport. I like to be reminded of the fact that they're real people.

completely unrelated, so sometimes I read Tavi's fashion blog cos I think it's remarkable and entertaining, and her post about beauty icons just blew me away. I completely agree, "I don't really want to be beautiful, just create beautiful things... I guess those I would identify as personal beauty icons are those that don't look flawless, but rather those that look as if they've done great things and will go on to do more of what they love." I couldn't have said it better myself. I wish I could've been that self-aware and articulate when I was 13! but I was way too angsty, haha.

oh! I forgot, the best part of the show last night was eating a cake someone gave Jesca, with a bunch of girls I don't know, with our fingers. it was fucking delicious! it had real chunks of fruit in it, and I woke up this morning with red and blue frosting crusted in my nails. awesome.

in other news, there hasn't really been news... the job search ain't turning up crap, but I keep applying to places online like it's going out of style or the internet is gonna break or something. I feel pretty overwhelmed with debt, but I keep telling myself it won't last forever. today I took a nice drive through the mountains listening to Plastic Bertrand, enjoying the sunshine. it was rad! and a super awesome friend called me to offer me an old boombox he found in his dad's office! so, so sweet. (I don't think I've mentioned that I have no working tape decks in my house, yet mixtapes galore - so frustrating.) I love surprises.
